La Misa Negra & LoCura live at The New Parish!
La Misa Negra is an 8-piece band from Oakland, California that plays a unique blend of 1950's and 60's style cumbia and high-energy, Afro-Colombian dance music. Powered by horn and accordion-driven riffs, a fierce rhythm section, and a vintage Colombian sound, La Misa Negra delivers an electrifying performance that explodes with infectious dance grooves and punk rock energy. Since their live debut in the fall of 2011, they have toured the US, playing shows and festivals with the likes of Arcade Fire, Thievery Corporation, George Clinton, Ozomatli, Lila Downs, Budos Band, SZA, Ana Tijoux, Bomba Estereo, Dan Deacon, La Santa Cecilia, and many others. On the strength of their wild and one-of-a-kind shows, La Misa Negra has gained a reputation as one of the most exciting live bands to emerge from the Bay Area in recent years, garnering a diverse fan base that transcends musical, cultural, and generational divides.
Califas Mestizo Music
Fronted by Spanish American vocalist Kata Miletich, Oakland bred band LoCura slips through the genre box cracks to bring you a sound that is at once infectious & thought provoking. With 3 powerhouse women at the helm, their live shows are a soul stirring punk edged party mixing cajon driven rhythms with muti-lingual lyrics that reflect the unique intersection of cultures in the Bay. Ana Tijoux meets Manu Chao with a touch of Ojos de Brujo.
LoCura has opened for Sergio Mendes & Bomba Estereo and shared the stage with Zap Mama, La Cuneta Son Machin, Quetzal, Nortec Collective. They have travelled with their music to Spain, Morocco, Mexico, Nicaragua & North America. LoCura has released three full length albums and is currently writing and recording music for their fourth album.
