Please join us the evening of Thursday March 23rd from 7-10 PM in ASUC Senate Chambers on the 5th floor of Eshleman for our concluding event of Palestine Solidarity Week, Resistance Through Art.
The purpose of “Resistance Through Art” is twofold. First, the event is meant to bring together Palestinian artists locally and from farther abroad and for Palestinian and Palestinian Diaspora students on this campus to be able to access and learn from their art. We hope to see this event as an opportunity for Palestinian students to not only celebrate and enjoy a space for themselves, but also with allied and marginalized communities on campus who are under attack by the same forces of white supremacy. Secondly, the event aims to present the breadth and diversity of Palestinian art to the broader campus community. Artistic resistance has historically played an important role in Palestinian resistance and we hope to introduce to folks in the campus community to this legacy and its thematic intersections with other communities and peoples’ artistic resistance. As one of the main modes of targeting Palestinian human rights is erasing their narratives and identities, this event actively aims to combat this by sharing stories and tradition through the use of poetry, music, and dance—all of which encompass a rich history of Palestinian life and culture. We hope to showcase these narratives as forms of resistance and to allow Palestinians to overcome their oppression.
