Haight Free Love is continuing our love re-evolution tour — this time on Ellis St in the Tenderloin, where we'll join IYD and Sunday Streets Summer of Love Block Party: Tenderloin for a pedestrian liberation of common space.
What is Haight Free Love?
Haight Free Love is a series of participatory public demonstrations that remind people we can create a culture of love and community anywhere at any time.
Come and express our love for each other and our community. Bring your magical selves and gifts of love to give away to friends and future-friends. We’ll have tea, music, flowers, food, paint, dancing, a free store, and whatever else you decide to bring.
— A bit about the Summer of Love Street Festival, organized by It's Your District:
On the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, It's Your District has joined up with Sunday Streets to celebrate the legendary phenomenon remembered throughout the world as a counterculture gathering in San Francisco, most notably the Haight-Ashbury district. The Summer of Love pushed cultural norms and social justice to limits never seen before, a movement that can still be felt 50 years later. To commemorate the 50th anniversary, IYD is partnering with local artists and organizations [that's us!] to celebrate the people and institutions who helped shape San Francisco into one of the cornerstones of progress and self-expression that it is today.
This is about COMMUNITY BUILDING, LIFTING SPIRITS, and HIGHLIGHTING ACHIEVEMENTS. We embrace the emergence of arts and culture as well as the vibrancy and stress on social justice that arose from this movement. We celebrate the extension of values that were explored and founded during this momentous time, and we encourage individuals to participate in their communities today.
— Haight Free Love is perpetrated by radical public arts collective, the Commoners, and is a community-powered Happening. So let’s work together to make this happen.
♥ See you on Sunday!
