This July, EXIT Theatre is proud to present A Life On The Ocean Wave: Being a Merrie Evening of Genuine Sea Chanty Sing-Along, and Also a Historically and Scientifically Accurate Account of a Sailor's Life at Sea, in Which Ghosts Appear and Have Something to Say.
This world premiere, collaboratively-constructed, multi-disciplinary evening of performance tells the story of Shantywoman, a singer of songs and a teller of tales who may be a goddess no less than Brizo, the famed protector of sailors…or just an actress struggling to find her feet again after the end of a romantic relationship. She is joined in her journey by a pair of dead sailors who tell her the story of a pirate captain looking for his lost love, a blind pilot, and a dog that thinks she’s a cat.
A combination of song, poetry, storytelling, and theatre, this anthology of original works by four local playwrights — Nancy Au, Nara Dahlbacka, and Conrad A. Panganiban under the leadership of head writer Carson Beker — was developed from pieces that premiered at the San Francisco Olympians Festival and is directed by festival creator and EXIT Theatre Resident Artist Stuart Bousel. This production features performances by Christina Augello, Daphne Dorman, Kyle McReddie, Carl Lucania, Shirley Smallwood, and Kitty Torres. This production features scenic design by Mary Naughton, lighting design by Curtis Overacre, sound design by Ryan Lee Short, and fight choreography by Kyle McReddie.
A Life On The Ocean Wave runs July 6 — July 22, 2017 at EXIT Theatre's EXIT Stage Left in downtown San Francisco. To purchase tickets, visit: oceanwave.bpt.me
