Snow Angel + Killer Kaya + Horrible/Adorable
The Funk-Pop girls of Snow Angel, doused with hard hitting drums, bass, omnichord, and electric sitar, are throwing down more sunshine, funkier jams and mystical girl power in the year of the rooster! In short, a technicolor rainbow cheer party, sing-a-long, group hug with a happy ending.
At one time this girl gang grew to nine women from it’s tender duo days. Now a solid quartet, Snow Angel (named after the ethereal mark we make during that moment of emotional surrender to nature) is hitting their stride and being recognized as trend setters in the Bay Area creative community. With funk roots and a pop mentality, the Snow Angel sound is more than music to dance to, it highlights the individuality and strength of women supporting one another.
Snow Angel is the brainchild of Gabby La La, who is most famous for touring with Les Claypool. Claypool produced and released La La's first album «Be Careful What You Wish For...» on his record label in 2005. La La followed up with the independent release of, «I Know You Know I Know» in 2011 after years of national touring and appearances at such festivals nationwide. La La debuted her first music video for the song «Alarm Clock» in support of this album, and has since produced many more.
Snow Angel self released their first double single on 7" vinyl in April of 2015 along with a music video for each song.
On December 2nd 2016 Snow Angel released their first full length album on 12" vinyl, and three music videos. Bust Magazine reviewed the album in their February 2017 issue and described the girls as a “Multi-babe band...Child’s Play meets Postal Service” and said that “Snow Angel succeeds in creating it’s signature sound right out of the gate”. Nylon Magazine (March 2017) features the girls with a photo spread and article! “Their sound melds the cosmic psychedelia of The Flaming Lips circa Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots with the wild feminine mysticism of Coco Rosie. Their self titled debut album is an inclusive, colorful explosion that evokes the bubbliness of a never-ending sleepover with best friends.”
Killer Kaya is a six piece psychedelic and funk outfit based out of Santa Barbara, California. Named after a rather large house cat, Killer Kaya has a 60’s era psychedelic sound with funk and soul elements and is composed of Apoorva Chiplunkar on vocals, Zach Rengert on guitar/drums, Eric Engel on drums/guitar, Alex Pavellas on bass, Cory Lund on trumpet and keys, and Josh Sheltzer on saxophone. The lovechild of scientists and hippies, Killer Kaya is reminiscent of the days where flower children roamed free and incense swirled about in whimsical billows. Sun soaked melodic threads run through Killer Kaya’s rainbow prism of sound, evocative of bands like Janis Joplin and Big Brother and The Holding Company and Jefferson Airplane.
Killer Kaya released its first EP in 2015 and will be releasing their first full length album later this year. Having played throughout the Central Coast and Los Angeles areas, Killer Kaya has also played with notable musicians like funk legend Shuggie Otis and Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Having recently made their festival debut at Starry Nites Festival alongside acts like The Kills, The Dandy Warhols, Cat Power, and Teenage Fanclub, Killer Kaya will also be performing Spring and Fall dates with SF based rockers Snow Angel through the Central Coast and Northern California areas.
Two girls who like to rock out and sparkle.
