One of America’s premier public intellectuals, Michael Eric Dyson is a Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University, a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times, and a contributing editor of The New Republic and ESPN’s The Undefeated. Dyson is also an ordained baptist minister, which informs his passionate speaking and writing on being black in America. Born out of a 2016 New York Times op-ed piece Death in Black and White, Dyson’s book Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America is a provocative and deeply personal call for change. In it, Dyson argues that if we are to makee real racial progress, we must face difficult truths, including being honest about how black grievance has been ignored, dismissed, or discounted.
