On Sounds:
Soulovely; DJ Emancipacion DJ Lady Ryan
Peaches Crew; DJ ThatGirl & Lady Fingaz
Hosted by Aima the Dreamer

Soulovely was born out of a heartfelt desire to bring together the diverse qpoc communities and allies of Oakland through feel good dance music, while also uplifting female DJs in the music scene. Soulovely is DJ Emancipacion, Lady Ryan, and Aima the Dreamer: 2 DJs and an MC, 3 powerful queer women of African descent who have been throwing Oakland’s favorite daytime dance party since 2011. We showcase women djs and queer djs from the Bay Area and beyond. The communities we bring together are excited to support women djs over a soundscape of SOULFUL dance music from all over the world.

DJ Emancipacion is a U.S. born Egyptian cultural worker who draws inspiration for her musical meanderings from our people’s movements for freedom and liberation. Her sets take you on a journey through Africa (her homeland) via Oakland, tracing tribal roots, future dubs, and lots of soul. She has been a proud member of the San Francisco Bay Area dance scene for over 15 years. Currently Emancipacion designs the sounds at her monthly summertime outdoor jump, SOULOVELY, founded by the first all lady DJ crew based in Oakland, CA. With a mixture of house, reggae, African, soul, and whatever necessary to get the crowd open, SOULOVELY is a testament to the beauty of Oakland's diversity. As a former resident at Brothers and Sisters with DJ Dedan and bearing a musical ear and work ethic honed from her job as a live and recording sound engineer, DJ Emancipacion is far more substance over style. You can hear it in her attention to blends and see it in the way she reads a room.

Lady Ryan:
Lady Ryan is unique in that she is known for her eclectic taste in tunes and spellbinding voice. From Jazz to Hip-Hop to House andWorld Music, the flux of distinctive sounds she so graceful sets beside one another make for a brilliant movement within the crowd. Lady Ryan is determined to ignite a fire within the industry and continue to carve her name into its history. She has easily become a Bay Area favorite, DJing and singing at major LGBT events like San Francisco and Oakland Pride Stages since 2007 and many clubs in both cities. Currently, she holds residence in Oaklands' premiere club Parliament, along with The New Parish, Bissap Baobab, Jupiter in Berkeley, and The Cellar in San Francisco.

Aima the Dreamer:
Aima the Dreamer has been rockin' crowds from Oakland to Barcelona, as a vocalist and MC with groups such as Femme Deadly Venoms, J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science, Goddess Alchemy Project and Jazz Mafia. All of this in addition to her own solo project has given her a variety of outlets with which to harness her energy as not only a talented MC, poet and vocalist, but also as a strong, feminine woman who easily holds her own amongst a male-dominated industry. She began going to open mics at the age of 16 as a spoken word artist and later finding her calling as an emcee in the Bay Area.
She has opened up for and been on the bill with such greats as Talib Kweli, Roy Ayers, Nneka, Robert Glasper, Mc Lyte, Les Nubians to name a few…
Aima the Dreamer is currently with Femme Deadly Venoms alongside DJ, turntabalist, producer and vocalist Lady Fingaz in a sweet gumbo of Hip Hop, Funk, Soul and Electronica. This dynamic duo shares a musical point of view that spans space and time. A refreshing balance between smart and sultry lyrics over smoking hot beats. Lady Fingaz and Aima the Dreamer invite the world to experience their music as a journey and not a destination.

Peaches Crew;
The ladies of Peaches have been holding it down in the Bay Area for six years. The founder of the crew Masaye «Mama Peach» Waugh formed the crew in 2009 and stared their weekly party at the mission district's infamous dive Skylark. Deejays Deeandroid, Lady Fingaz, Umami, That Girl, Pony P, Andre and Smokey Rose spin an array of hip-hop and club classics but most importantly always keep the dance floor jumping!

Lady Fingaz
As the child of a musician some of Lady Fingaz' earliest memories revolve around the stage, taking in her father's gigs, and often sitting in to sing with the band. From this musical beginning she began studying piano at an early age and in her teenage years would soon discover and enthrall herself into the art of djing and turntablism. Soon this Austin, Texas native found her element better known as dj/turntablist, producer and vocalist Lady Fingaz. Moving to New Orleans in 2001 she continued perfecting her mixes and cuts, the basics of turntablism and production all while earning two business degrees at UNO. It was in New Orleans where she would quickly make a name for herself as a rising DJ talent in an all too often male dominated genre. In 2004 Offbeat’s Best of the Beat Awards honored her with Best Emerging Hip-Hop Artist for her accomplishments throughout New Orleans. In 2006 Lady Fingaz joined the collective Females Wit Funk, which features the top female turntablists from around the world. Following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, Lady Fingaz relocated to San Francisco, CA furthering her solo pursuit and joining forces with the all female super group La Femme Deadly Venoms. In 2010 Lady Fingaz and her crew LFDV placed second in the U.S.A. Team DMC competition. Thanks to her father’s vast knowledge of Funk, Jazz, Classic RnB, Blues, and Rock Lady Fingaz’s production of Hip-Hop and EDM reflects that always incorporating her soulful voice and turntablism into every piece. As a Dj, with 13 years experience behind the decks, she mixes a variety of genres accompanied by an array of show stopping turntablism and live production this southern belle knows how to rock a party!

DJ ThatGirl
Growing up during the tail-end of Hip-Hop’s Golden Era, ThatGirl was heavily influenced by the consciousness which characterized this period in music. A time of jazz, funk, and soul samples. A time of street poetry and uncensored politics. Further cultivated amidst the ecelctic San Francisco Bay Area art and music scene, eventually DJing became her main form of self-expression. Since then, ThatGirl has been moving dance floors with an exquisite blend of beats, spanning across a variety of music genres, old and new. She has rocked crowds from coast to coast while still maintaining an organic, original appeal.
Using music as a tool for transformation, she first gained widespread attention with the release of “Summer Love”, a mix which seamlessly covered multiple genre’s of music while still maintaining a deeply emotive theme and rhythmic consistency. Reveling in the type of music that brings the listener back to the soul, she paints musical soundscapes of raw emotion, playing sets that convey pure feeling, where time becomes nonexistent and the spirit becomes captivated by the groove.
