Jazz and Social Justice Series: Songs of protest, hope, resistance, and social consciousness throughout history to the present day.

«A trumpeter of expressive urgency and a composer of expansive vision. » — The New York Times

An artist called “a brass-wielding force of nature” by the Los Angeles Times, trumpeter Terence Blanchard returns following the triumphant 2015 performances of his biographical opera Champion: An Opera in Jazz. He brings his GRAMMY-nominated E-Collective, performing music of hope and healing from their forthcoming album Caravan, a collection of live recordings made in Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Dallas – three cities scarred by the violence and tension between law enforcement and their African-American populations. A savvy bandleader, celebrated film composer, brilliant jazz writer, and influential educator, the GRAMMY-winning New Orleans native is a major creative force in the contemporary jazz scene. He has composed over 40 movie scores, including soundtracks for the majority of director Spike Lee’s work, making Blanchard the most prolific jazz artist working in film. Blanchard conceived the E-Collective to explore the intersection of jazz, R&B, funk and fusion, and describes the project as an outlet to satisfy a yearning he’s had for years to explore areas of music that he’s always loved but never ventured into, with a band made up of musicians who truly stand at the vanguard of today’s jazz. “This band represents the best of America's ideals. We're five very different personalities with different visions who play together for a common goal: Creating music that hopefully heals hearts and opens minds.”
