Come watch and dance to folkloric Afro-Cuban rumba at La Peña! This is a family friendly and free event!
Come enjoy the Afro-Cuban folkloric drums, dances, and songs of rumba. Rumba is the word used for a group of related, community-oriented, music and dance styles in Cuba. Rumba developed in rural Cuba, with strong influences from African drumming and Spanish poetry and singing.
BRING YOUR OWN PERCUSSIVE INSTRUMENTS (OR BORROW ONE OF OURS), OR COME SING, DANCE OR WATCH!
* PLEASE NOTE, Los Cilantros RESTAURANT WILL NOT BE OPEN DURING THE EVENT. They re-open at 5:30pm.
The Sunday Lounge Rumba has been going on at La Peña for the past 12 years and we want to see it continue. We highly encourage participants to donate at lapena.org to ensure that we keep this community participatory event alive!
La Peña is a non-profit cultural center in south Berkeley, located 2 blocks from Ashby Bart. This is one of many free or low-cost programs that La Peña offers. Check out more at lapena.org!
