— Tired of swiping, mindless chit-chat and awkward first dates?
Come meet mindful singles at our Puja-inspired dating event. Our playful exercises will bring out your best self so you can get to know your dates in an authentic way.

You'll share a few moments of connection with each date in a traditional Puja circle. Exercises are fun and PG-rated (think communication games, actor's improv, partner yoga, etc.), and of course you're always in charge of how you want to participate. After the event, you'll receive your matches.

*NOTE: We strongly recommend you sign up online in advance, as these events do sell out. Door sales will be admitted based on gender balance and capacity.

**Please arrive 15-20mins early to check in.

FAQ:
What is Tantra?
Well, for starters, it's not what you saw in the movie American Pie! Tantra is thousands of years old and has become a buzzword, which unfortunately has some misleading definitions. Translated from Sanskrit, it means «weaving,» which we come to understand as oneness. Bringing oneness to yourself and consciousness to what you do. The exercises involving breathing and meditation that are a part of Tantra are designed to bring you into a state of being more present. And who doesn't want to be more present, right?

What is a Tantra Puja?
Puja (in Sanskrit) literally means reverence, honor, an offering. Tantra Puja is an ancient ritual designed to open our hearts and allow us to see the inner beauty and the Divine within ourselves and all beings. It invites us into the elegant dance of masculine and feminine in a warm space of oneness and connection. What better way to start your first date!

What does it look like?
Participants form two circles facing each other. The men form the outside circle and the women form the inside, with each woman facing a man. Each pair then share a meaningful exchange with each other in a directed exercise (called a “Puja station”), which can be for a few seconds or a few minutes. Then they both put their hands in Namaste, thank each other and--like a speed date--rotate to the next person. The Puja ends when everyone has rotated enough that we’ve come full circle.

What are some exercises that happen in a Puja station?
We’ll do some basic connection exercises: breathing, meditation, light partner yoga, speaking a vulnerability, eye-gazing, conscious touch (holding hands, hands on heart)… things that go a bit beyond the obligatory “what do you do/where are you from” of most first dates. And you’re always invited to go as deep as you choose.

What if there are exercises I don’t feel comfortable doing?
We try to keep the exercises light and fun, but it’s always up to you how much you want to participate. And just like in yoga when you find a pose you’re not comfortable with, you have the option to modify it to your taste, or go with a basic Namaste to your partner.

So how is this a dating event?
What makes this a speed date is that you get to choose who you enjoyed interacting with in your Puja station and we'll put you in touch after the event. We like to let the women choose. The women will get to sense each man’s personality and presence and decide who they want to get to know better. Men will be instructed on how to be grounded and open-hearted so they can be felt. We trust the wisdom of the feminine it all works out.

What should I wear?
You'll want to be celebratory but also comfortable. You can bring sarongs, yoga pants, etc. Though we've had some folks show up in suits and they manage just fine.

What is the Tantra Institute of New York?
The Tantra Institute’s mission is to empower people to connect more consciously using the tools and teachings of Tantra. We hold multiple events, such as our extremely popular Tantra Night! Event, and work with singles and couples to help them increase their capacity for intimacy, authenticity, and pleasure.
