DEATH VALLEY GIRLS // deathvalleygirls.bandcamp.com/
Think of Death Valley Girls as an acid-tripping science experiment that’s been buried alive, and resurrected as a sexually liberated dystopian chain-gang. A cosmic scar, if you will, on the hills of Echo Park, where the experiment began in 2013 by proto-punk Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel — who got lost in the desert, returned to their haunted garage in Echo Park, and pieced together their vision with shopworn images of sexploitation babes, a blood-soaked Iggy Pop, and Bloomgarden’s series of phantasms, the result of spending a year in a mental institution, where she planned her neon-glowing odyssey by listening to Black Sabbath and UFO, reading about alien conspiracy theories, and deriving her band’s moral compass from a line she saw in a movie: “Everybody’s gotta be in a gang,” from campy sexploitation romp Switchblade Sisters (1975).

TERRY MALTS // terrymalts.bandcamp.com/
Terry Malts' third album, Lost At The Party, is a long time coming, 3 years to be precise. But the time was spent well. Between stints of touring and local shows, Bassist/vocalist Phil Benson and guitarist/vocalist Corey Cunningham wrote and re-wrote songs over the course of a year in Los Angeles where Cunningham had moved since the release of their last album, 2013's Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere.
The idea was to broaden the Terry Malts concept and create a kaleidoscopic pop album that has a mixture of moods, each song turning to a different sound inspired by the records the band have loved over the years. The driving punk (Buzzcocks, The Undertones) that has been a cornerstone of the group's sound sits snugly with songs steeped in indie-pop and power-pop (The Chills, Dwight Twilley).

YOUNG ELDERS // youngelders.squarespace.com/
Young Elders are a cosmic soul-pop band from San Francisco, bringing street harmonies and psychedelic wizardry on the edge of a blade. They replaced the acoustic instruments of their first albums with Moogs, combo organs, and fuzz guitars.

Lead songwriter Nick Castro is known for his acoustic work that featured members of Current 93, Espers, and In Gowan Ring, as well as for his time in legendary UK psych-pop band, Kaleidoscope. Castro, who currently also plays with Asteroid #4, has played Spain's EuroYeYe, the Austin Psych Fest, Belgium's ZXZW festival and has shared stages with the Sun Ra Arkestra, Vetiver, and Os Mutantes among others.

Along with Nick Castro on lead vocals and keyboards, the current members feature veteran musicians David Volker on Drums, James Cartney on bass guitar, and Everett Katigbak on rhythm guitars and organ.
