Exclusive show grand opening for artist Wãwí at Etcetera Wine Bar SF Tuesday, September 5th.
Meet the artist enjoy her unique and beautiful art.
Born in the village of Embu, Kenya, Wãwí carries her culture with her, seamlessly folding it into everything she creates. Her work honors the aspect of African culture that revels in life and treasures all things natural. From unique fashions in figure-flattering silhouettes to dynamic paintings inspired by her travels, a vibrant color palette is at the center of all she creates. Warm sunset scenes of African skies seem to warm the soul of the onlooker and her wearable arts elevate adornment to a whole new level of cultural richness.
What comes most naturally to Wãwí is the passion with which she shares the important and integral role that Africa plays in the world. As a cultural ambassador for not just Kenya but all of Africa. Wãwí has been featured on the Africa Channel’s My Africa and she is one of the founders of Activate Afrika, an activist movement and global network aimed at engaging people in elevating the dignity and visibility of the African Diaspora to celebrate and heal the continent.
Outside making art and designing her clothing and jewelry lines, Wãwí celebrates her indigenous roots through gardening and permaculture, travel, and styling. Simply put, Wãwí puts love into everything she does, thriving in the gift we call life and sharing the wealth with which her culture breathes.
