Punk rock anarchist, transgender pioneer, author, poet and chanteuse, Bambi Lake returns to the stage with The Golden Age of Bambi Lake at Oasis on Sunday, October 15 at 8pm.
“In my opinion «Golden Age of Hustlers» is the greatest song of all time which makes Bambi Lake, arguably, the greatest songwriter of all time! “ said Justin Vivian Bond.
That song evokes the era when Polk Street was still the gay neighborhood and the boy hustlers would hang out at the Grubsteak all night. The Polk and San Francisco have grown and changed by leaps and bounds since then, but Bambi wants you to return for one night to experience the memories of her life from The Children of Light (a spin-off of the Cockettes) running into the punk scene and through an era of love, light, death, drugs and music that San Francisco should never forget – The Golden Age of Bambi Lake.
Scrumbly Koldwyn (the Cockettes) will start off the night with his new original piece, Cirque du Scrumbello, a gender bender retro cabaret featuring alumni of the Thrillpeddlers troupe--Andrew Darling, Annie Larson, Birdie-Bob Watt, Bruna Palmiero, Crystal Why, Diogo Zavadzski, Earl Pas, Jason Wade, Jim Jeske, Roxanne Redmeat and Steven Satyricon.
Kitten on the Keys will guide the night with an introduction by Alvin Orloff and Birdie Bob Watt supporting Bambi on piano.
After the show stay for the book signing of The Unsinkable Bambi Lake, the autobiography co-written by Orloff. The new 20th Anniversary 2nd edition will be making its exclusive debut at Oasis and will be available in stores and online in November through Manic D Press.
The few remaining CDs of Bambi’s My Glamorous Life as a Broadway Hostess will also be available.
