Celso Piña was born on April 6, 1953 in Barrio Nuevo Repueblo, south of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
Piña began playing regional music for a long time accompanied by his brothers Eduardo, Rubén and Enrique, together they gave serenades in the neighborhood to all the girls of the block.
It was in the year 1980 when Celso Piña bought his first accordion to enter the world of vallenata music, with long hours of rehearsal and effort, in the popular colony Independencia, south of the city of Monterrey, Mexico. For this area where lived a long time has a cumbia called Mi colonia Independencia, which is located in the populous area of Cerro de la Campana in Monterrey.
In the mid-1980's they decided to change their musical style and began playing tropical music. After listening to the illustrious Aníbal Velásquez and Alfredo Gutiérrez during a taped dance, they decided to enter fully into the vallenata music, and thus formed their own band Celso Piña and his Ronda Bogotá.
Celso Piña is an autodidact of the accordion, his style formed him only by playing and rehearsing time and time again. Of its first beginnings, there are several cumbias such as «cumbia de la paz», «Oye mi cumbia», «Cumbia Campanera», «Como el viento» and the very famous «La piragua».
