2018 is here filled with good luck and great energy. Start the new year with us as at the Village Artist Corner (outside the Asian Art Museum at the corner of Larkin and Fulton) as we welcome the Year of the Dog and:
~ Learn what Chinese zodiac animal you are based on the year that you were born
~ With our large scale calligraphy station, have fun writing your given animal sign in Chinese
~ Make a mask inspired by your zodiac creature and show it off while dancing to our DJ's
~ Contribute to the Art / Lit LIZ #stickyquestions mural as part of the closing ceremony
As part of a city initiative to revive underutilized public spaces with art, performance and community activities, San Francisco has created several Living Innovation Zones (LIZ). We are honored to share a LIZ with the San Francisco Public Library: the Art/Lit LIZ, on the corner of Fulton and Larkin streets. The Art/Lit LIZ is a platform for installations, performances, art-making and other events and includes a 30-foot-long mural wall that presents a rotating display of site-specific artworks.
The Village Artist-in-Residence at the Art / Lit LIZ is offered by the Asian Art Museum and aims to support creative development directly aligned with growing and sustaining consistent community engagement amongst those who frequent the Civic Center Commons. The purpose of this program is to create a public platform via the Village Artists work that invites the community to explore and promote expression, creativity while deepening connection and compassion.
Academy of Arts Graduate Students are this seasons Artists-in-Residents, with activations on November 5th, December 3rd, and January 7th 2018. Stay tuned for February's Floating Garden of Emotions in collaboration with the Atlas of Emotions Eve Ekman, featuring artists Jasper Speicher and Marie Applegate.
