The Root Slam’s mission is to create an inclusive and socially just space to promote the artistic growth of the Bay Area poetry community.
We want to be a place where poetry, creativity, and innovation thrive and artists support and challenge one another to grow. We encourage participants to bring new work and develop it to the point of excellence. We are guided by values centering the voices of Black, indigenous, and people of color artists; queer, trans, gender non-conforming, femme, and women poets; working class/low-income, disabled, im/migrant and undocumented folks.
The venue is just two blocks from MacArthur BART, and offers food & drink, music, and a free, dynamic night of poetry every 2nd & 4th Friday of the month!
