An audience favorite at San Francisco Jewish Film Festival! This charming New York City love story follows a man with high-functioning autism who finds love unexpectedly when he is court ordered to attend a social program for adults on the autism spectrum at the Manhattan JCC. A sweet and refreshingly authentic portrait of a community seldom depicted on the big screen.
Community Partner Q&A after the Tuesday, March 27th screening. Join us with AASCEND, Superfest International Disability Film Festival, and Creativity Explored as we celebrate and discuss the neuro-diverse community of San Francisco!
Director Rachel Israel's directorial debut is inspired by Adaptations, a community for neuro-diverse adults that meets at the JCC of Manhattan. She cast non-professional actors from Adaptations and worked closely with them to create fictional versions of themselves for the film. What results is an endearing and naturalistic romantic comedy about people navigating the difficulties of a relationship and the rewards of acceptance, self-love, and mutual trust.
Winner of the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival Best Narrative Feature and Best New Narrative Director awards. «The film, so devoted to the intricacies of the autistic experience, makes its comedy and pathos inextricable.» — Slant Magazine
