Beaucoup Chapeaux (Nevada City, CA) plays ancient, contemporary, and original music, "...something lovers can whisper behind, and get up and dance to", performances that are called magical, beautiful, inspiring, world class, a voice to knock your socks off, the real thing, true joie de vivre, with the ability to carry audiences away to the most intriguing corners and cafés of France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Albania, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Ohio, Scotland, California, and by all accounts, extraordinary original compositions. While their many fans and reviewers speak of the skill and passion the band puts into each concert and piece they play, others speak of the powerful sense of community, joie de vivre, and fun one experiences at a Beaucoup Chapeaux concert.

".. .Beaucoup Chapeaux, a world and fusion quartet... was at the Red Poppy (Art House).. .On a ledge tucked into the storefront, we nestled among pillows, enveloped by compelling yet comforting strains of accordion, fiddle, guitar, clarinet. So many fans showed up that the Poppy’s small wine bar ran out of glasses, but the crowd felt like family, with cousins crowded around the table, and you almost felt like volunteering to do the washing up." --Leah Garchik, San Francisco Chronicle, Jan 19, 2016

«It has a permanent home in my car's CD player!!! We love your new CD!» --Sean Bianco, host, Capital Public Radio's «Night at the Opera».

«Beaucoup Chapeaux has created a very magical niche with this music. It's a feel, an ambiance, something lovers can whisper behind and get up and dance to.» --Eleanore MacDonald, musician, author

“All in all, they are each one of them uniquely talented; as a collective, they are an astonishing juggernaut.” --Sands Hall, the Nevada City Advocate, Feb, 2013

From California, Beaucoup Chapeaux's founder and leader is accordionist, guitarist, vocalist, and composer Maggie McKaig. A soulful singer in a dozen languages and formidable instrumentalist, McKaig has recorded seven albums, the last two with Beaucoup Chapeaux, A Night at the Classic Cafe (2011) and This Music Heals Broken Hearts (2016). Her collaborations with others include work with bassists Bill Douglass and Michael Zisman (Storm Session); saxophonist George Brooks, trombonist Ludi Hinrichs, Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser, singer-songwriters Paul Kamm and Eleanor MacDonald, Sands Hall, Peter Wilson, and two time Grammy award winner Mary Youngblood, whom McKaig traveled with for one and a half years as lead guitarist and harmony vocalists. She was lead guitarist for the Canadian folk rock band Lost in the Colonies, leader of the Celtic Wonder Band and the folk roots band Storm Session, and was a founding member of the Nevada County based Balkan Women's Choir, Podruzhki. McKaig is also a playwright (Cumberland Suite) and essayist. Her works have been published in the online magazine 2paragraphs. She is married to Luke P. Wilson, with whom she has two grown sons.

From Ontario, Canada, Luke Wilson is a master of strings, playing tenor guitar, plectrum and 5-string banjos, dobro, as well as a fine singer. The former Capitol Records artist has performed and recorded throughout the UK with Ron Paul Morin and Major Wiley, in Canada with Ian Tyson, Diamond Joe White, Ken Hamm, members of Prairie Oyster, Ron Casat, Miles Jackson, Peter Marley, and the Backline Orchestra, and in the U.S with Michael Zisman, Saul Rayo, Nory Fussell, Kimberly Bass, Charlie Brock, Sands Hall, Peter Wilson, and Utah Phillips, who regularly referred to Wilson--who was also Phillips's luthier--as one of the best musicians on the planet. Married to Maggie McKaig, Wilson runs his luthier shop, Wolf Note Studio, near his home near Nevada City, CA.

From Scotland, on violin, oboe, cor anglais, and vocals, Murray Campbell has performed and collaborated with McKaig and Wilson on many projects since 2005. A member of Beaucoup Chapeaux since its inception, and considered a musical wizard by all who play with him, Campbell also performs regularly on his reeds with numerous symphony orchestras, including North State, InConcert, and Auburn symphonies. Campbell, who studied and performed music in the Hague for seven years, also plays with new chamber music ensemble Bristle, Ludi Hinrich's Chicken Bonz, Lisa Mezzacappo's String Band, and has performed and recorded with singer songwriters Paul Kamm and Eleanor MacDonald, Sands Hall, Kipchoge Spencer, Issac James, and Vermillion Lies. He has a degree in mathematical physics.

The very talented Randy McKean, on clarinet, bass clarinet, piccolo, and vocals, is a noted improvisational saxophonist and new music composer, and has been a member of Beaucoup Chapeaux for nine years. The Iowa born McKean's original compositions draw upon methods of distillation and synthesis pioneered by composers such as Anthony Braxton and Iannis Xenakis. McKean leads the modern chamber quartet Bristle (with Campbell, bassist Lisa Mezzacappa, and reed player Cory Wright), performs and collaborates with many Northern California bands and ensembles, and produces the Col. Macaw's Magical Cure-All concert series. His collaborations include the Gargantius Effect and Sawbones. McKean’s recordings include Wild Horsey Ride, Bristle’s Bulletproof (Edgetone), and Futures Nows, So Dig This Big Crux (Rastascan), the Great Circle Saxophone Quartet’s Child King Dictator Fool (New World), and the electronic release Gargantius Effect +1+2+3 (w/Han-earl Park, Gino Robair & Scott Looney).
