It's not a remake, it's a down to the studs adaptation of Stanislaw Lem's orginial novel. A troubled psychologist is sent to distant space station. The crew of this research outpost is experiencing strange phenomena, including visions of long-gone loved ones. At the time, the cognoscenti screamed sacrilege or hubris that any mortal dare remake Andrei Tarkovsky's epic masterpiece of space madness. What the easily shocked overlooked, however, was that «remake» was written, directed, shot and edited by a filmmaker on a hot streak that was already extendeding into its second decade: Steven Soderbergh
