OCEAN ODYSSEYS — Please join us to celebrate the adventurous voyages from Taiwan to Oceania more than 3,000 years ago that have connected us by culture, language and humanity. Put on a Hawaiian shirt, Taiwan aboriginal costume, or traditional Philippine regaila — and come enjoy live music, food and fun trivia!
STUDIES suggest that Polynesians originated from Taiwan. The incredible journey by Taiwan aborignes passed through the Philippines to reach countries such as Tonga, New Zealand, Vanuatu and possibly Hawaii, Easter Island and Madagasc...ar. Today, the linguistic similarities remain. Taro, yam and tapioca are common in daily food. Come prepared and you may have a chance to win prizes for trivia on Taiwan aboriginal culture.
APPETIZERS will be served, including aiyu jelly, a summer dessert in Taiwan. Traditionally, the jelly is made with seeds of creeping figs which are found in high mountains. The jelly is usually served with sweetened lime juice. There will be bubble tea (boba tea) from Halin, the Taiwanese tea house that invented the popular drink in 1986.
