McEvoy Foundation for the Arts
1150 25th St, Building B, San Francisco, California 94107
The McEvoy Foundation for the Arts (MFA) hosts Lia Ices & r beny, co-presented with Noise Pop. The concert is part of 'For the Sake of Summer,' MFA's film and music series featuring an eclectic mix of musicians and filmmakers.
Lia Ices brings a kind of childlike joy to her captivating, mystical sound. Her previous LP, 'Grown Unknown,' left the impression of wood nymphs and fairies writing and playing music deep in the woods with acoustic guitars, jangling bells, and tambourines. Ices' move to Northern California from Brooklyn coincided with a change in musical direction, one that includes loops and samples but also Middle Eastern string instruments and percussion.
r beny is the electronic ambient project of California-based artist Austin Cairns. Through the use of modular synthesizers, samplers, and tape loops, Cairns weaves a sonic bouquet of textures and melodies that recall forest drives, coastal cliffs, and lost loves.
'For the Sake of Summer' expands upon film and music motifs and cultural themes explored in MFA’s summer exhibition, 'Ragnar Kjartansson: Scenes from Western Culture.' The music series presents a sonic compliment to Kjartansson’s video installations that are “about a feeling, but there’s no story.” 'For the Sake of Summer' is co-presented with Canyon Cinema, Noise Pop, and the Roxie Theater.
