On Saturday night of the The Gray Area Festival 2018
, Second Woman
, Patricia, Layne and Machinedrum
, a new collaborative project featuring Turk Dietrich of Belong and Joshua Eustis of the renowned Telefon Tel Aviv
. As one would imagine, Second Woman is a nonpareil debut of futuristic electronic music fusing the coveted genetics of the duos respective previous endeavors into an alluring new enigma of ASMR-inducing kaleidoscopic dub. Second Woman is a fully realized entity; a well-crafted sound world and a refreshing shared effort which is inspiring in its purity and painstaking in its design.
, a Berlin-based design and motion graphics studio specializing in creative services for stage entertainment, large-format media installations, tradeshows and events. Going beyond screen work, they apply innovative ideas to fusing light, video and spatial design. Pfadfinderei also sport a hot roster of patented fonts and design publications. Founded in 1998 in Berlin, Pfadfinderei started as a design studio focused on print, fonts and logos designs.
Patricia, aka Max Ravitz, is an accomplished designer of sounds and a composer of murky, melodic electronic music designed to elicit movement in the body. For the past several years, Ravitz has been a fixture in New York’s punk-ish world of do-it-yourself house and techno, releasing a steady stream of records (under his own name or in duos Inhalants, Masks, or Pulpo, but most frequently under his own legerdemain-styled solo moniker, Patricia) on labels like Opal Tapes and L.I.E.S.
Layne composes field recordings, abstract auditory textures, and rhythmic concrète churns into a hypnotic aural terrain reminiscent of the inceptive work from her seminal female forebears in experimental electronics. Recently released on Karl O’Connor’s legendary Downwards Records, she displays her proficiency in creating a vast soundscape and spatial atmosphere.
, North Carolina-born artist Travis Stewart, known as Machinedrum, occupies a perhaps unique place in US electronic music. A pioneer and a populariser, a restless and relentless seeker, Stewart brings together coasts and continents in projects which are both conceptual and heartfelt, clever and banging. He has produced and composed over a dozen albums under various aliases since his first independent release in 1999. Covering an astonishing variety of styles with ease, through solo Machinedrum work and with collaborative projects Sepalcure, JETS, Dream Continuum, or other mutations, Stewart has established himself as electronic music's true Renaissance man.
